Dr. Farooq Wasil
Executive Principal, Our Own English High School, Sharjah
Director – Asian Schools, GEMS
With over 25 years of involvement in Education, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Wasil, a doctorate specializing in Education, joined the Gems Education Management System group in 1986 and assumed charge of Our Own English High School, Sharjah in 1994. He is currently the Executive Principal, Our Own English High School, Sharjah and Director – Asian Schools, GEMS
Excellence in Education being his inspiration, Dr.Wasil has been a keen participant, keynote speaker, and Chairperson in innumerable conferences and seminars on Education both in the Gulf and in India. He has been actively involved in documenting research projects under the aegis of NCERT and the UGC. A thinker and writer, his articles have featured in several National and International research journals and publications. Dr.Wasil has been consultant to several educational groups from time to time and is also on board for several educational publications. He co-authored a series of books for Kindergarten and Primary school children.
Dr.Wasil was Secretary of the CBSE Gulf Council from 2001 – 2002 and then Chairman of the CBSE Gulf Council from 2002 – 2003. He was Chairman of the Sports Committee of the Gulf Council for CBSE schools for the year 2004 -2005. He has also been a part of the CBSE affiliation committee and an advisor of various institutions and a member of various CBSE committees.
Dr.Wasil was honoured with the prestigious National Teacher Award awarded by the Ministry of Human Resources, which he received from the Ex-President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in September 2005. In recognition of leadership competency and contribution to Education, he was awarded the GEMS Fellowship - “Leadership for Learning: The Cambridge Network” Fellowship in January 2006 to conduct research on Leadership Management at the University of Cambridge under Professor John MacBeath.
Believing in the Almighty for his continued blessings, he has faith in the infinite potential of students, staff and the team that works with him. His interests include literature, music and traveling.
Mr. Thomas Mathew
Principal
Mr. Thomas Mathew holds the post of the Principal at Our Own English High School, Sharjah, Boys’ Branch. Mr. Thomas has over 25 years experience in the educational field. He was the founder Principal of Air Force Vidya Bharati School, Gwalior which was adjudged the ‘Best Air Force School’ for two consecutive years (1992 & 1993). He has also served as the Principal of Hamdard Public School, a semi-residential day boarding school in New Delhi.
Mr Thomas joined the GEMS Group in 1995 and from November 2000 to July 2007 he was the Headmaster of Our Own English High School, Sharjah.
Currently he is the Convener of the GEMS Sports Purchase Committee.His interests include games and traveling.
The Principal, Mr Thomas was awarded with the CBSE Teacher Award which he received from Mr.Kapil Sibil ,Union HRD Minister on 5th September 2009.
Mr.Keenan Pimenta
Senior Supervisor

Mr. Keenan Pimenta joined as the Senior Supervisor this year and he has been teaching for about 25 years in India and in the UAE and considers himself to be a lifelong learner. Some of the schools he has taught in India include St Columba’s School, New Delhi, St Joseph’s College, Naini Tal, St Mary’s High School, Kolkata, St Edmund’s High School, Shillong, Meghalaya (where he was Principal for 5 years) and Dhirubai Ambani International School, Mumbai. He was appointed as Inspector for schools seeking accreditation to the ICSE board in Nagaland and Meghalaya for 2 years. He served as Principal of Al Diyafah High School, Dubai for three years.
Mr Keenan’s interests range from music (singing, playing guitar) and dramatics (musicals, operas) to taking active part in environmental campaigns and bird-watching. He is a certified trainer and teacher for the GLOBE project (www.globe.gov) initiated by ex-US Vice President Al Gore. He loves art, drawing and mind-mapping and plays and enjoys all games including cricket, football, hockey and basketball.
Mr Piyush Tripathi
Supervisor – Senior Middle School
Mr Piyush Tripathi (M A History, B.Ed – Delhi University) Supervisor of Grades 7 and 8, comes with a wealth of experience. He started his teaching career in St, George's College, Mussoorie. He joined the Our Own family in 1989 as a Teacher of Social Studies in the Senior School. Mr. Tripathi was upgraded as the Supervisor of the Middle School in 2002. A multi-faceted educator, he has directed several Prize Day Musicals over the years, and has been the coordinator of Interact - the teachers’ journal, and CATE Debate. He is also the staff advisor of the alumni of Our Own Sharjah.
Mr. Colin Gomes
Supervisor – Lower Middle School
Mr. Colin Gomes (BA, B.Ed - Delhi University ) has over 33 years of experience as a Mathematics Teacher. He joined Our Own Dubai in 1986 and has received several letters of appreciation for producing excellent Board results. He has been a House Master and was the recipient of the Best Teacher award in 1998. Mr. Colin joined Our Own Sharjah Boys’ Branch as Supervisor on 20/11/2008.
Mrs. Mini Tripathi
Supervisor - Primary Grade 4
Mrs. Mini Tripathi (BSc, MA English, Uttaranchal University) has over 24 years of experience. She joined Our Own Sharjah in 1990 as a Science Teacher in the Middle School. In 1998 she took over as the Supervisor of the Kindergarten 1 and 2 which then comprised of 54 sections. She was a recipient of the Best Teacher Award in 1996. A proactive individual, she introduced such programmes as Orientation for parents, Look Who’s Answering Quiz, Creations – a teacher workshop, Interactive CDs, Look Who’s Answering CDs, printed notebooks and resource handbooks for KG. She was also selected to attend a workshop for ‘Potential Principal’.
Mrs. Queenie Phillips
Primary Supervisor Grades 1, 2 & 3
Mrs. Queenie Phillips has done her MA, B.Ed. from Gangotri - Mysore University, India, and began her teaching career in 1979 and has since been involved in the field of education. She has 28 years of experience in Primary education and administration.
Mrs. Phillips has served in two of the country’s most distinguished schools, one of them being ‘Clarence High School, Bangalore’. There she spent the first 6 years as a Primary school teacher and moved on to become the Primary Head for the next 11 years. She also had the privilege of teaching English to the Middle School of Hebron School, Ooty, that followed the National Curriculum for England.In Dubai, she worked as an ‘English Language Trainer’ at the Emirates In-flight Catering Co. L.L.C., and in May 2002 she joined The Kindergarten Starters, Dubai as Supervisor for Grades II and III and in 2009 moved to the Our Own School, Sharjah, Boy’s Branch as Supervisor of Grade 1 to 3. Her emphasis is to develop students who are excited about learning and who will go on to be life long learners.
