Our Own English High School, Boys’ Branch, Sharjah prides itself on its well-formulated and constantly monitored Pastoral System. The love, care and concern shown by our Staff, help set the tone for a happy school environment. A close bond between the teacher and student is encouraged and we firmly believe that with such an atmosphere prevailing, the School is a second home to each of its pupils.
Mentor System
The school also pursues a very successful Mentor System that is given even greater emphasis in the senior years. Selected teachers assume the role of a mentor and accept responsibility for the academic and extra-curricular performance of a small group of students. Mentors maintain close and direct contact with parents, facilitating regular communication about their child’s welfare and provide a motivational atmosphere to students to explore their full potential.
House System
The House System is at the core of the social fabric of the school. Each House has been named after a planet: Jupiter, Mars, Neptune and Saturn. Under the guidance of a House Master, the Captain with his team of Prefects pilots the house. Every student of the school is a member of one of the houses. Inter-house activities promote a healthy feeling of competition, a sense of loyalty and team spirit along with nurturing the talents and capabilities of each student in the field of academics, performing arts, sports and other extra curricular activities.
The Board of Prefects, led by the Head boy is a truly representative democratic body, which provides leadership and represents the students. The Student Council led by the President, is the voice of the students, with one representative each class from Grade 9 – 12. The council presents their suggestions and recommendations to the Principal and the Management. Both the bodies work in tandem to create a congenial atmosphere for the students.
Counselling Service
Our counselling services help students to understand and deal with social, behavioral and personal problems. Preventive and developmental counselling provides students with the life skills needed to deal with problems before they occur and enhance students’ personal, social academic growth.
The behavioral counselling programme involves individual counselling and group counselling and works on a variety of issues such as self esteem, dealing with peer pressure, coping with examination pressures to help students understand themselves and their environments in a better way.
