The student led video conference started at the scheduled time on 1st October, 2018 with a warm welcome by the facilitator, Mr. Pupjana Kole. The participating schools were Our Own English High School, Sharjah, Boys’, Bal Bharti Public School GRHM, India and Silver Oaks Schools & Colleges, Pakistan.
The students contributed to a fascinating discussion about wealth, charity & poverty. Each group was asked to describe ways in which they felt healthy or poor. Several students suggested that ‘spiritual wealth’ such as peace, the memories that we accumulate, families, friends etc. are more important than ‘material wealth’. The students asked a number of response questions to each other; which led to a rich and at times passionate exchange about the nature of effective charity. They discovered that increase in population had an indirect impact on poverty, wealth & GDP of a country.
The role of charity and the effectiveness of different models of charity seemed to interest the students and markedly different perspectives on the topic were shared.
