Teacher’s Empowerment Program 4th edition was held on 12th May 2018 from 9am-4pm at Manipal University Campus Dubai.
Around 170 teachers from Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah participated in the program. Ms. Bianca Louis, Ms. Vanessa Fonseca, Ms. Deepthi Radhakrishnan, Ms. Kavitha A Nair, Mr. Som Suvra Chakraborty were the participants from OOB Sharjah.
Course of Program
The Lighting of the Lamp ceremony took place in the presence of the esteemed dignitaries on stage. The welcome speech was given by Mr. Mohan Nair, President SIF and Mr Subash Nair, Secretary SIF.
Inaugural speech was given by H.E. Vipul Consul General.
Felicitation speech was given by Dr. Kota Reddy Manipal Academy President, Mr. Srinivas Naidu Principal, Amity school, and Mr. Amol Vaidya, Director, General Global School foundation.
Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Santosh Vimalan TEP Coordinator.
First session: (10.45am-11.55am) Talk on Work-Life-Balance by Mr. B. R. Subramanian, Director of a Private Bank. The talk was followed by a practical session on meditation for 20 minutes.
Second session: (12pm-1.30pm) Perception management of a teacher- Talk by Mr. Ameya Ghanekar. The talk was about the right gestures/ mannerisms which help teachers to become more effective in class. It was an interactive session.
Post Lunch session
Third session: (2.40pm-3.00pm) Teaching with Technology -Talk by Mr. Ramesh Mudgal, Principal GIIS Dubai.
He emphasized on the changing role of a teacher from knowledge transmitter to a facilitator, coach and contractor. Some examples of technology in classroom are AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality), one to one device and 3D immersive learning.
Fourth session: (3.00pm-3.15pm) Evolution of Technology in teaching: blackboard and beyond – talk by Mr. Girish Narayanan. He spoke about evolution of classroom technologies. To keep in pace with the children of digital age, we must immerse students in experiential learning.
Fifth session: (3.15pm-3.55pm) The use of technology in teaching- talk by Mr. Iqbal Siddiqui.
The aim was to underline the critical importance of digital content in education delivery to the 21st century learner. Some of the key topics dealt were interactive simulations in 3D and Unity.
Some examples of digital contents available are 2D, 3D, VR, AR, E Books.
Sixth session: (4.00pm-4.30pm) Future Gazing: Preparing teachers for tomorrow- A talk by Mr. Amol Vaidya, Director Operations at Global Schools Foundation. He spoke about how our future is being affected dramatically by actions outside our control. Therefore it is essential for us to try and understand how actions and decisions affect us and that we prepare ourselves to be ready for this quick changing scenario.
The program concluded with the distribution of participation certificates.
