OOBITES SHINE AT THE OOIS DEBATE
The 25th Annual OOIS Debate, held in commemoration of Gandhi Jayanti and under the aegis of Consulate General of India, was marked by cultural performances that set the tone for the evening. The event brought together 18 finalists from 9 schools across the UAE, chosen from a competitive pool of 60 students representing 30 schools.
The topic, "Gross National Product overrules Gross Domestic Happiness as a success criterion for a nation," generated a heated and thought-provoking debate. Prepared within 24 hours, the participants demonstrated exceptional eloquence and argumentation skills. Nine students argued for the motion and nine against, with a dynamic round of interjections adding to the excitement.
Sarang Varma of Grade 9E stood out with an impressive performance, securing the First Runner-Up award for Best Speaker, while Samford’s contributions were equally appreciated. The event was attended by Cluster Head and Senior Vice President, Mr. Michael Guzder, and the Guest of Honour, the Consul General of India, who delivered an inspiring closing speech, leaving the participants motivated and energized.
The debate offered a valuable platform for students to hone their critical thinking and public speaking abilities, reinforcing the importance of such platforms in shaping future leaders.
