White Cane March
It is UAE's leadership's priority to create a conducive environment for individuals with the determination to participate equally in all spheres of life. The UAE believes in the power of inclusiveness and implements it in its broadest sense to provide opportunities for talented individuals to realize their potential and shape the nation's future. There is a continued effort in the UAE to enable those who are determined not only to function in society with ease and independence but also to enjoy their lives to the fullest. As part of International White Cane Day, which takes place every year on October 15th, the Sharjah Private Education Authority organized the White Cane March which reflects the UAE's social values and commitment to the welfare of diverse segments of society.
At GEMS Our Own English High School, Sharjah Boys, we emphasize the importance of instilling a community culture that is sensitive to the needs of people of determination and facilitates their independence through services, policies, and initiatives offered by GEMS and OOB. Led by Ms. Cinu Baby, students from the OOB community and their parents attended the White Cane March hosted by the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) to celebrate the achievements of people with visual impairments. The event provided an opportunity for students to show their support and solidarity with the visually impaired. True to the motto of the White Cane March, "Conquer Darkness with the Light of Insight," our students are strongly motivated and inspired by the resilience and determination of those who cannot see but who possess great insight.
