Event Report: TEDxOOBSchool 2025 –-The Power of Imperfection
9th Edition | Held on 14th June 2025 | Our Own English High School, Sharjah – Boys
On 14th June 2025, Our Own English High School, Sharjah – Boys proudly hosted the 9th edition of TEDxOOBSchool, a much-anticipated intellectual forum that once again lived up to its reputation for inspiring thought, courageous dialogue, and transformative storytelling. This year’s theme, “The Power of Imperfection,” challenged the conventional pursuit of perfection and instead celebrated authenticity, vulnerability, and the strength found in personal flaws and unfinished journeys.
What began nine years ago as a modest student-led initiative under the TEDx license has grown into a hallmark of student voice and youth-led innovation across the UAE. TEDxOOBSchool is not merely an annual event; it is a movement that continues to empower students with the confidence to think critically, speak courageously, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
This year’s edition brought together a diverse group of 15 student speakers who captivated the audience with talks exploring topics such as coding errors, the nostalgia of vinyl records, identity in the age of digital filters, and life lessons from everyday games. Their stories offered fresh perspectives on failure, resilience, and self-worth, shifting the focus from perfection to purpose.
The event was the culmination of extensive preparation, including mentoring, script development, rehearsal sessions, and production design. Led by a passionate team of student curators and supported by expert trainers and faculty mentors, the TEDx experience was crafted with both intellectual depth and emotional resonance.
The success of TEDxOOBSchool 2025 would not have been possible without the visionary leadership of Principal Mr. Srivalsan Murugan, whose enduring commitment to student empowerment and creative expression continues to shape the school’s learning culture. Sincere appreciation is also extended to Vice Principal Ms. Sindhu P. Nair for her meticulous oversight and unwavering support in ensuring the event’s excellence.
Ms. Sofi Mathews, the official TEDx organizer, played a pivotal role in the success of the 9th edition of TEDxOOBSchool. With unwavering dedication and vision, she spearheaded the planning, coordination, and seamless execution of the event.
Special thanks were extended to the curators, Ms. Radhika Misra, Ms. Vanessa, Ms. Sindhu Krishnan, Ms. Zainab, Ms. Antonia and Ms. Meghna, who guided our speakers from their first drafts to their final moments on stage.
Equally commendable the Art director, Ms. Annie George and her technical team, whose seamless coordination behind the scenes, from lighting and sound to logistics and design, created a professional and immersive atmosphere. The event was graced by the presence of parents, educators, alumni, and guests, whose engagement underscored the value of platforms that prioritise student voice, dialogue, and real-world learning.

Most importantly, the day belonged to our student speakers. With sincerity, courage, and grace, they stood on the red dot and shared truths that resonated deeply. Their vulnerability became their strength, and their imperfections became a bridge to connection and understanding.
As the curtain closed on TEDxOOBSchool 2025, it did so with a sense of continuation rather than conclusion. For TEDxOOBSchool has never been about a single event, it is about sustaining conversations that matter, amplifying voices that challenge the norm, and building a future led by thoughtful, compassionate changemakers.
In this edition, imperfection was not seen as a flaw but embraced as a force. A force that connects, inspires, and transforms.
Here’s to the power of imperfection and the limitless possibilities it holds.
